Sing & Play Yoga with Peri!

We had the best time this past Saturday with Peri at her Sing and Play Yoga class at Desert Song!  This class is only offered once a month, on a Saturday, but it's so fun because dads can come too!  (Note:  This class is normally for babies newborn to crawling.)  She is also teaching Mommy & Me on Tuesdays now (class time change!) at 10:15am, so join her then!  (Peri also sells her Sing & Play Yoga cards online here.)

The next Sing and Play class is Saturday, January 7th at 10:30am.  Hope to see you there!

Mommy & Me Yoga

Today was a full class in Mommy & Me yoga!  I invited a few friend and Michelle ended up having 8 moms and babies - it was so fun!

My friends, it was their first time, loved the class and said the yoga poses were "definitely what they needed."  They will be back next week!

If you've just had a baby and are wanting to get out of the house, I suggest you come to Mommy & Me yoga on Mondays at 10:15am with Michelle!

Mommy & Me Yoga

This past Monday I brought a childhood friend, Meaghan, who was visiting from out of town to Mommy & Me yoga with me, so she could see the joy in Indy while we practiced.

This little guy frequented Desert Song while in my womb, attending Meg's class and Yoga Teacher Training for 6 months (January to July).  He is my little yoga baby who was upside down, twisted and turned each week (sometimes three times a week) in class.

It's so fun that he loves it just as much on the outside as he did on the inside.  I hope he always has a love for this practice that is oh so special to me.

Thank you Michelle for another wonderful class!

Thoughts on Mommy & Me Yoga by Michelle

Each Monday, I have the honor of teaching yoga for moms who come to practice with their new to new-ish babies in a postnatal yoga “Mommy & Me” class. This week our theme was Unfolding. There wasn’t enough of a pause for the entirety of the following poem to be read in the lively experience of our class, so I share it here now along with a few images of the sweet people who gathered to share some yoga on a day when, as class began it rained for three whole minutes in mostly sunshine.

Please pay attention to the last line, “Feast on your Life.”  Please notice how the whole poem reminds us that as we make our way through the moments of our lives, each of us has a friend in our own soul, a friend who’s just waiting for us to recognize these gentle eyes.

Love After Love

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

Yoga at Stroller Strides

On Wednesday, I taught a mini yoga class to a group of Stroller Strides mamas.  I invited 2 friends and went early so that I could participate in Stroller Strides before the yoga class.  I soon discovered that it was SO TOUGH!  Those moms were amazing, doing a million squats and burpees, I couldn't believe it and definitely couldn't keep up.

I was grumpy that I had to wear shoes (I am a yogi after all) and I was sweating within minutes.  I had planned a high energy yoga class, because I knew there would be kids involved, but by the time we got to yoga, I just wanted to relax!  I made the best of it, did some simple stretches, Warrior poses, used scarves and animal figures to keep the kids involved and brought Peri's Sing and Play yoga cards with me to show the kiddos and do some poses using those as well.

It was fun but I was beat afterwards and came home and took a nap with my babe!  I would be happy to come teach a kids' yoga, or adult yoga class for moms, any time to Stroller Strides or another group, I love meeting new moms and kiddos.  Yoga with kids is also a lot of fun and if your kids like yoga, or have never done it before, I suggest you try out one of Desert Song's kids' classes!  They have a weekly class, Mommy & Me, for babies newborn to crawling, and then a weekly kids' class for kids agest 4-10 and a teen/tween class for teens ages 10-16 (check their schedule for when these weekly classes are offered).  Then, monthly, they have classes on Saturdays for kids ages crawling to 5 years old.  Check out their Events page to see what class is being offered when and to sign up online!

I will do another post on yoga for kids, and why I think your child would have fun in a yoga class - coming soon!

Mommy & Me Yoga

Peri subbed for Michelle on Monday and class was so much fun using her Sing and Play Yoga cards!  A lot of people have asked me, "Can I still bring my baby if they are fussy?"  Yes!  In this class, anything goes - changing diapers, walking around a fussy baby, nursing, bottle feeding - anything.

So, gather up that new babe (newborn to crawling) and join us every Monday for Mommy & Me at Desert Song!
